about

This album came about when Jon Toogood from Shihad and Nigel Regan of Head Liike a Hole started messing around with a 4-track jon had just bought. Songs started appearing like the haunting Mixdown and from there Tom Larkin (also from Shighad) was roped in and it was decided that they would go into the studio and record a few tracks with Brent McLachlan (of Bailter Space fame) in Bailter Space's recording studio in Martin Square in Wellington. Then some other tracks were recorded while al this time there was no intention of releasing any of it.
While both bands were touring Europe in the mid 90's Murray Cammick the label owner of Wildside got in touch and asked about the possibility of releasing it. So some pens and paper were handed to booga beazley and within an hour or two he had whipped up the artwork which was sent to Murray and there you have it. 'Is that it? by the SML. That was in fact it apart from one EP released before the album. It's a fantastic album with a mixture of lo-fi and hi-fi and you can hear the band having fun as in the song 'Mixdown' where you hear Jon laugh as he realises the lyrics are working which were being read of the Instruction manual for the 4-track. The instructions for Mixdown of course....
